Obituaries for June 3, 2009 Wednesday, June 3, 2009 Helene Sudbury O'Kelly, 93, of Friendship, died Monday, June 1, 2009 at Signature Health Care in Memphis. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Friendship Funeral Home. Burial will be in Bethesda Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. She was born on July 6, 1915 in Friendship to Jerry and Ollie Sudbury and was a member of the Tigrett Church of Christ. She was very active in the Tigrett Community before her illness. She was instrumental in obtaining from the state of Tennessee a grant to purchase equipment for the Tigrett Volunteer Fire Department. During World War II, she was employed in the war effort at the U.S. Arsenal at Milan as a shell loader. Later she attended a U.S. Government sheet metal school. On completion of her schooling she was employed at the U.S. Army Air Base in Halls where she repaired sheet metal on B-17 bombers before they were deployed to Europe. After the war, she and her husband owned and operated a furniture upholstery business. At his death she opened and operated a drapery shop for many years. Survivors include a daughter, Susie Hayes and husband, Jerry, of Bartlett; two granddaughters, Catherine Hayes and Sharon Moore (Michael); great-grandchildren Andrew Crawford (Bridges), Chandley Crawford and Katie Moore; a great-great-grandson, Brantley Martin Crawford; nieces, nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jack; a sister, Wilmoth Harris; and two husbands, Collie R. Byassee and Aubrey L. O'Kelly. Notify Administrator about this message?
