The 1900 census for Decatur Co., TN shows Mary Polk 22 TN a widow with 3 children: A son (last name Douglas?) age 7; a son (Elijah G. Douglas ?) age 3 and a daughter, Mandy Polk, age 1. Children are all listed as Polks.
In 1910, Mary A. Coda, 29 TN, a widow who has had 7 children with 5 living: Lige Douglas, 13; Manda Polk, 9; Jane Polk, 7; John Coda, 4 and Jim Coda, 1.
In 1910, Mary A. Coda is living next door to James Polk, 50 TN and his wife Manda (Mathes?) Polk, 50 TN and an adopted son, Oliver Mathes 7.
In 1920, Mary Coady, 40 TN a widow is living with her son, Elijah G. Douglas 23; Mandy Polk 20; Jane Polk Flat, 17 divorced; John Coady, 13; Jim England, 10 (Coda in 1910); a son, Odel Thomas, 4; Erskin L. Flat, 1 gr-son(son of Jane) and Howard Mathes 16 listed as a nephew. Howard is apparently the same as Oliver who was living with James and Manda Polk in 1910.
These folks are descendents of Marion A. Polk, 1832-1879 and wife Elizabeth of Hardin Co., TN. Marion was a brother of my g/g/grandmother Eliza Catherine Polk Cagle, 1816-1873.
I am hoping that some of these names strike a bell with someone who can untangle this family.
