My Mother-In-Law is 86 years old - she told me something a few years ago that sort of went in one ear and out the other. Well, I decided to address what she told me - "Those Allman Brothers who formed that rock band were from Vanleer" ... Well, she was sort of correct - their Father was. He was Willis T. Allman (1918-1949), who my M-I-L knew very well. He was born in Vanleer and was murdered the day after Christmas near Norfolk, VA 1949 according to what I found. Willis T. Allman's roots are deep into Dickson as well as Montgomery County, TN ... His parents were John Alford and Myrtle (TURNER) Allman - his grandparents were Francis Elbert and Dora (DEAN) Allman and Samuel E. and Elizabeth A. (MATTHEWS) Turner. He also descends from the Montgomery County DILLONs and the Humphreys County NORMANs ... The Allman Brothers are not the only 'famous' rock band brothers from Dickson County - Dan and Jim (of Seals & Crofts) SEALS have deep Dickson County roots. Of course, the knowledge of this and $2 will buy you a very plain large cup of coffee at Starbucks ... Jerry Anderson Dickson, Tennessee Notify Administrator about this message?
