Jane,
I'm sorry I do not have anything further back than John Jackson Carrington either, but I can give you more information on his wife, Hannah J. BURKE, if you haven't already received it.
I have a marriage date of 30 Sept 1846, Roane Co., TN for Jack & Hannah.

She was b. abt 1826 TN - d. aft. Aug 1850, & was the d/o John Burke and Elizabeth Osburn from Roane Co., TN.
John (b. abt 1780 in County Mayo, Ireland - d. before 1840) was the s/o William Burke and unknown.
Elizabeth Osburn (b. bet 1780-1790, NC - d. bet 1840 - Aug 1850) is believed to be the d/o Nathaniel Osburn and unknown.

I have Hannah's siblings and their families, if you are interested in more BURKE information.

I'm descended from Hannah's sister, Hephzibah Burke (m. Mark Madison Renfroe), who moved from Roane to Henderson Co., TN. Some of their descendants also moved to Senath, Dunklin Co., MO.
I'd be interested in knowing more about Hannah's line.

Feel free to contact me direct at plabrot@swbell.net
