Becki: As John rightly informed you, there are not marriage records per se prior to 1838 for Fayette County. That said, there are a couple of long shots you might look into if you haven't done so. There is a book compiled by Marjorie Hood Fischer titled "Tennessee Tidbits 1778-1914 Volume I". She went to court minutes and extracted "A collection of items showing birth, death, marriage, divorce...etc." Volume I includes Fayette County. Offhand, I don't recall if she published additional volumes covering nearby counties such as Hardeman. After all, since you don't have a marriage record then you really can't say with certainty that the couple married in Fayette County. Another long shot is a book by Jeannette Tillotson Acklen titled :"Tennessee Records - Bible Records and Marriage Bonds". Many of the entries have Bible records which go way back. I lucked out and found the family Bible of a maternal 5th great-grandfather and it gave me a great deal of information. Pure serendipity - I had just discovered my 4th great-grandmother's maiden name and happened to pick up the book and check the index. There it was! Have you checked to see if there are any newspaper abstracts for the period? Pickins might be slim but it could be worth looking into if you haven't already done so. Just some thoughts....Rick
