Bruce, I only have limited info on the BAKEMAN family.
My old James Kennedy, b1770-80 and found in the 1820c Overton Co.,TN had a son, John, who had dtr, Mary mentioned in a 1842 court suit,after old James'death in 1836. All the suit said was "Mary, married to a BAKEMAN." Have hoped to find a descendent of that marriage, but unable to do so. I did note the census enumerations that you sent and the 1850c Overton did have this Joseph Beckman with wf, Magdalina.(sp?)
