Prior to the Civil War Franklin County had the NC&StL railway that connected Chattanooga and Nashville. It entered Franklin County through Stevenson, AL, then through Sherwood, TN and on to Cowan,TN and Decherd, TN and on to Nashville. From Nashville to Louisville, KY the L&N had service at that time. Also the NC&StL had tracks from Nashville to St. Louis. You may Google either one of these railroads for additional information.
