Family members found a letter in an old bible belonging to our 3rd great grandmother - addressed to her, from a cousin - E.E. Howard. We do not recognize any of the names in the letter and am hoping that someone on the Howard Forum will. Again, this letter was dated April 24, 1868 and was from Giles Co., TN Letter states: Dear Cousin. I take the presant opportunity of answering your kind letter i confess I have been very negligent about writing to you. These lines leaves us all well. I trust they may find you all enjoying good heth we have some sickness in the neighbourhood one little boy is expected to die to day. I got a letter from cousin Bill writen last aug he was well and talked of selling out and leaving the US, forever. I have not answerd his letter yet and I don't know whre to write too now if you know where he is write to me soon. I heard from brother Williams family. They was all married but their son and youngest daughter. I have not heard from Mother and Irvins family in some time. I got a letter from Adelines little Mary she said she was hired out, she said she intended to come out here in three months if she did not marry. She said she had heard that Euphemia had a child about a week old and I heard last year that Adeline has had two since she went out there. She left here with a young baby cousin Nancy you don't know how much it troubles me, I never get a letter from them but what I think of my poor Brother. I must close my letter for the tears doo blind me.Tell the girls to write I know they can write more than I can. Mr and Mrs Cosby said give their best. Love to you all. Tell cousin G.W. that old Sammy he would rather see him than a brother he wrote to you last year and never got any a answer. I must quit for this time, write soon. Give my love to all the family, nothing more at presant but remain your affectionate cousin until death. Nancy W Richard Signed - E. E. Howard GW & Nancy W Richards (we have it with the S at the end) Are our GGG Grandparents and were living in Clark County, Arkansas during the 1860 and 1870 census. They were in Lawrence Co., TN on the 1850 census. We have the names of their children, but nothing on their siblings or parents. Hoping someone recognizes a name above. Typos are as the letter was written, I did try to put punctuation in where it should be, most of it was written as one LONG sentence. Appreciate any input as to who E E Howard may be. Thanks.
