I am trying to locate information about the parents of Joseph Shelton born October 1826 somewhere in Grainger County. He married Permelia Merritt in 1849. In 1856 he, his wife and daughter moved to Kansas together with his inlaws. Joseph served in the Kansas Infantry during the Civil War. He died in Kansas on the land he homesteaded in 1913. Nothing is known about his parents or siblings. Surely he has kin folk still in the area. Appreciate any help you can give me to solve this century old mystery...
