Ball, William tax list 1783, Greene Co., TN

Can anyone tell me something about the William Ball who was on the Greene Co., TN tax list of 1783? A son of a William Ball, Joseph Ball, met up with the John Slaughter family possibly in Greene Co., TN. Joseph married John's daughter Phebe. Joseph Ball and John Slaughter moved to Knox
Co., KY by 1803 where Joseph married Phebe.
Where did William Ball go after 1783? Could he be the one who married Mary Cecil and went to Rowan Co., NC. This one was from Frederick Co., MD. There was at least one of Joseph Ball's children who claimed that Joseph was born in Maryland. I don't really know the date of birth for Joseph. It was reported on three different census reports as 1780-90. Most researchers claim it was earlier than that. He went to Mississippi, to Limestone Co., AL, to Ray Co., MO by 1830, to Polk Co., MO, to Dade Co., MO where he died in 1842-44. Joseph was a blacksmith, farmer, minister of the Methodist church, Justice of the Peace in Ray Co., and teacher.
I have a pretty good record of Joseph but drastically need help on his father William Ball. He would need to have been born sometime in the 1750 range. Thanks, Carol
