I checked the 1910 Census sheet you found, and Carl was listed as a Manager for a Clothing House. Both he and Lucy had been married before. St. Elmo is within walking distance of the Georgia state line. SHAMBAUGH, at that time and in this area, was not a common name. I then checked the Chattanooga City Directories. No SHAMBAUGH appeared in 1908/09/10, but in 1911: Page 662 - SHAMBAUGH, Charles - Clerk, Close Brothers (a furniture store) - Residence: 301 Vine Street, Chattanooga Since Carl and Charles sometimes are used interchangeably as German names, and since Carl's father was listed as from Germany, might be food for thought. No SHAMBAUGH appeared in 1912/13. I could find no record of a Hamilton County, Tennessee SHAMBAUGH marriage record for the appropriate period. Marriage might have occurred in Georgia. Good luck!
