Mystery of Charlie Collins and Real father

I received Charlie's Death Certificate and the Social Security Application and it list his father on death certificate as Will Baker and on the application as Tom Baker could it be that it was Thomas William and his second wife knew him as Will? Again mystery surrounds Charlie Collins there was also a difference in the age the death certificate says he was born in 4-8-1892 but the Social Security application says 9-8-1888
