Thanks. I managed to track down the Holts you mentioned, and Darryl did DNA testing for me. We established for sure that Kendrick Holt was his ancestor, along with definitely determining Kendrick's parentage. It also showed that my Holt who supposedly belonged to this line was not a Holt by blood--not what I wanted, but an answer of sorts. According to several sources in the Grainger Co. area, my gr-gr-grandfather was supposed to be the brother of Kendrick. Perhaps a half-brother. I have enough circumstantial evidence to indicate that my Pleasant Holt was a member this family, but the details of why he was a Holt in name only remain a mystery.
