..................all the files that were donated to "free genealogy forever"? Hardeman County and most of the western area of TN have had to play catchup for online availability of genealogy data, especially free access, and information. What data there was online that was free a few years ago seems to have disappeared. These files were donated free by volunteers and were told their files would remain free. One of the big deals here is that this was not just sending files thru a server and bang it's done. Many hours were spent by Charlotte Holloway and a nunber of Hardeman County TN residents in walking these cemeteries and working very hard to record the fading and broken headmarkers. Charlotte personally made the effort for me to record McKee and Bizzell / Bizzell and McKee Cemetery as it has been called both ways after beginning on a Bizzell homeplace. She then uploaded and donated the files to rootsweb. This was repeated in county after county by many volunteers. Charlotte Holloway is a major player in the area of having donated files for Hardeman Co TN. Yesterday I went back to look for those files and found almost zero for cemetery listings. I emailed the link on the site and this is the exchange I had: Can you tell me what happened to all the contributions that Charlotte Holloway made to rootsweb? She had a lot of the Hardeman Co Tn cemeteries online and did tons of work - what happened to all that free data? My family cemetery that she took the time to walk and enumerate could not belong to anybody else - what happened to: McKee Cemetery files? Thanks for any info here, Linda McKee ...................................................................................................... I beleive that all she sent me has been placed on the Hardeman CO web site and she has been given credit for all her hard work. ........................................................................................................ I am looking to access the database where the McKee Cemetery, Hardeman Co TN was transcribed (after lots of physical labor) and was donated by Charlotte for my use and others. Is that database still where I can use it? Thanks, Linda McKee ....................................................................................................... Actually the cemetery pages seem to be down. I sent an email to _____ to check if the links have changed. We will see what is happening. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// I notice nearly no activity on this board and many of the other boards seem to go for months with no posts nor answers to posts when folks do post. The effort to help folks in their searches seems to have dwindled. Perhaps the greed of those people who have turned everything into something for sale is at the root of it. ..........perhaps whatever happened to Smiley Burnett has happened to the industry.
