Smith-Hawk-Hardin Surnames

I am the great great great granddaughter of James L Smith and Margarett Hawk. I am searching for information about James, born 1806 in Tennessee; he died 1862 in Arkansas. I do not know parents or siblings. He and Margaret were married in Hardin in 1827 and had 11 children. The Hardin family married into this line, and one was the granddaughter of Daniel Smith (1797-1863). Are Daniel and James L Smith related by blood in addition to the connection through marriage? They have sons with similar names, including Pleasant (Plesant) as a given or middle name for males. Thanks.
