Granny, Nancy Elizabeth Boyd b. 1911 in Russell Co., VA, descended from John and Anna Catherine Miller through their son Valentine, and his son Daniel Payne Miller. I do not have proof, but I believe like some others do that John's father was Nicolas Miller (mother, Sally Griffith). They came from the Yadkin Valley area of old Rowan County, NC. Granny's genealogy file had a note in her handwriting that Nicolas Miller lost a leg to injuries sustained during the Battle at King's Mountain (7 Oct 1780).
She descended from Moses and Mary Ann Hardin Ball through their daughter Mary Polly Ball, who married John Tunnell Ball, the son of George and Elizabeth Tunnell Ball. Her great grandmother was Polly Angeline Ball who married Robert Aaron Boyd, son of Jonathan Boyd b. 1802.
I live in the NC mtns, less than a 2-hour drive south of Russell Co., VA.
