I am trying to locate someone descended from Royal (Ryal or Rial) Turner born about 1806 who appears on the 1830 of Jefferson Co. TN as a male age 20-30 years old. Checking the available tax lists for Jefferson Co. TN (beginnning in 1822), he first appears with 1 White Poll on the 1831 Tax Roll in Capt. Gatlin's Co. of Jefferson Co. TN and a John Turner is on the same list. He purchases land in 1834 from Robert Patton which was on Blue Spring Creek. A witness to this deed was Nathan Turner. 1830 Census of Jefferson Co. TN, Nathan Turner in the age bracket 40-50 is enumerated directly next to a James Turner who is in the 20-30 age bracket. Other deeds, census, and tax rolls suggests that there may be a connection between a James Turner, Royal Turner, and Nathan Turner. The 1830 Tax List of Gatlin's Company, Jefferson Co. TN has the following other names that are found associated with Turners in Jefferson Co. TN. Calloway Hodges Robert Martin Sr. and Jr. Several Vances Nathan Turner John Turner Nathan Turner seems to have first entered land in Cocke Co. TN in April 1824. There is a land entry for Nathan "Tyry" that appears to be almost certainly for Nathan Turner on Neeley's Creek, Cocke Co. TN. But, there is no Nathan Turner on the 1830 Census of Cocke Co. TN but he appears to be enumerated in Jefferson Co. TN. Several land entrys for Cocke Co. TN list people who enter land on Neeley's Creek appear to be listed on the 1830 Tax List of Jefferson Co. TN in Capt. Wester's Co. For example, Absolam Fox. There were numerous Talley/Tally folks on these tax rolls. Members of these families then intermarried heavily with children of John Turner b c 1805 TN married Mary b c1799. Royal Turner is enumerated in Knox Co. TN in 1860 as Rial Turner and then in 1870 he is in Cannon Co. TN where he is listed as Pleasant Turner. I am looking for a proven male Turner descendant of Royal Turner who would be willing to join us in the Turner DNA project. We have two males descended from John Turner b 1805 that we suspect may be related to Royal Turner. If there is a match on the DNA, there would be no question that the two lines are very closely related and that Royal is likely either a brother of John or a cousin. Please contact me if you are descended from the line of Royal Turner. PLEASE. This is a brick wall just waiting to get knocked down. Gail Notify Administrator about this message?
