I am searching for information on a WISE and SANDERS families that came to Lee County, Tennessee in the 1880’s.
They are as follows:
John WISE
b. about 1824 around Cocke Co., Tennessee
d. about 1883 in Tennessee
He married in Tennessee to:
Spouse - Elizabeth “Betsy” (JONES) WISE
b. about 1827 around Knoxville, Tennessee
d. about 1892 in Lake Co,. Tennessee
Note*** I have records that give witness account that Elizabeth “Betsy” WISE died
in Lake Co., Tennessee.
John and Elizabeth “Betsy” Jones WISE had the following children:
1. Andrew Jackson WISE
b. 1848-50 in Cocke Co., Tennessee
He married Nancy STRICKLIN (DUVALL – 1st husband’s last name) in Madison
Co., Tennessee in 1874.
2. Sarah WISE
b. about 1852 in Cocke Co., Tennessee
I believe this Sarah WISE married in Madison Co., Tennessee in Mar 1874 to:
Spouse – W. M. LEGGETT
She married again in Crockett Co., Tennessee in Aug 1877 to:
Spouse – Henry POLK
3. Rachel WISE
b. about 1855 in Tennessee
d. in 1905 in Lake Co., Tennessee
She was married to George C. CAMPBELL in Lake Co., Tennessee in Dec 1886.
He was the postmaster at BLUEBANK for a few years.
4. Howard WISE
b. about 1857 in Tennessee
d. about 1879 in Madison Co., Tennessee
Howard had married in Madison Co., Tennessee in Nov 1878 to:
Spouse – Doshatine ATKINS
After Howard died and the family moved to Lake Co., Tennessee records show she
remarried in Lake Co., Tennessee in Dec 1887 to James POUNDS.
5. Calvin Wayne WISE
b. about 1859 in Cocke Co., Tennessee
He married in Madison Co., Tennessee on 30 Dec 1877 to:
Spouse – Clementine HUGHES
He married in Lake Co., Tennessee on 10 Aug 1886 to:
Spouse – C. BIRDSONG
He married in Lake Co., Tennessee on 2 Feb 1887 to:
Spouse – Lida “Ider” MCINTIRE
Calvin Wayne WISE and Clementine HUGHES had one child named John Henry WISE.
I know Calvin had other children, I just don’t know which ones belong to which mother.

6. Susan WISE
b. about 1860 in Tennessee
NOTE***
There are some WISE children born around BLUEBANK in Lake Co., Tennessee that I
would like to find more information on.
They are George Washington WISE, Charley WISE, James WISE and James Andrew Jackson WISE.

Hamilton Jackson SANDERS
b. 1850 in Tennessee
d. unknown but around 1900.
He married in Haywood Co., Tennessee in 1869 to:
Docia STRICKLIN
b. Feb 1856 in Alabama
They had the following children:
1. John “Jack” Robert Hamilton SANDERS, Sr.
b. 1870 around Crockett, Tennessee
He married in Haywood Co., Tennessee in Feb 1888 to:
Spouse - Julia Ann DICKERSON
b. 1869 in Tennessee
Their children were Minnie, John R. H., JR., and James SANDERS at
the time they would have lived there.
2. James SANDERS
b. 1873 in Tennessee
3. Levi “LEE” C. SANDERS
Levi “LEE” C. SANDERS married in Lake Co., Tennessee in Nov 1902 to:
Spouse - Ollie D. WISE
b. 1878 in Tennessee
4. Elijah “LIGE” Benjamin SANDERS
b. 1878 in Madison Co., Tennessee
5. Louis S. SANDERS
b. 1884 in Tennessee
6. Mary Frances SANDERS
b. 1888 in Tennessee
7. Sallie Bell SANDERS
b. 1889 in Tennessee
I know where a lot of these family members went by 1900. I would like to know
more about the WISE family that stayed in the LAKE Co., Tennessee area.
I would like to know more about the offspring that was born to them.
Does anyone know if George C. Campbell and Rachel WISE Campbell had children?
Are their offspring still living there?
Are any of the offspring of the family outlined in this query still living in the Lake Co., Tennessee area?
