"At the June term 1861 Robert O. Smith was elected General of the Home Guards and the following men were appointed as Home Guards: John Patton, J. L. Brown, John Runnions, Edward Tatum, D. F. Brown, John C. Paschall, J. W. Brown, William J. Whiteside, P. P. Taylor, Manson Vestal, W. B. Williams, Jesse M. Sims, W. H. Flanigan, John H. Tait, Paris Cooper, Wm. C. Floyd, William Stewart, R.
