I am really stuck... I would really appreciate any help in locating and confirming: 1. The parents of Henry Kemp, aka: Henry D. Kemp who is listed with his wife, children and what appears to be some of his siblings, Sampson Kemp, Harriet May Kemp, & William Kemp in the 1850 census: District 7, Macon County TN. 2. Some sort of confirmation (or good guess) that the child listed as a member of his family as Jinks Cy in the 1850 census, but after Henry's death, as Jancine in the 1860 Wilson Co. TN census is Jancine Kemp, b. 1847. The following information is what I have: Henry D. Kemp b. 1817 – Tennessee d. September 12, 1857 – Died at sea m. Polly A. Bass – February 9, 1844 – Wilson County TN. Children Lucretia Kemp – b. 1846 Jinks Cy / Jancine Kemp – b. 1847 Julia Kemp – b. 1848 Harvey Kemp – b. 1850 Henry Kemp was lost at sea on September 12, 1857, while sailing home from California onboard the “Central America”, aka, “The Ship of Gold”. The Ship was caught in a hurricane and sank about 200 miles off the coast of Columbus, South Carolina. When the ship went down, more than 400 men and 21 tons of gold were lost. The sinking of the ship has been the subject of a program shown on the History Channel, and at least one book entitled “In The Deep Blue Sea”, by Gary Kinder. If you have any information re Henry's parents or even any ideas re the "Jinks Cy / Jancine" issue, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ~ Judy Notify Administrator about this message?
