Nathan, I'm very interested in the BARTON/BURTON family of Macon Co., NC. I have the minutes and history of The First Baptist Church of Macon Co. In 1834, James and Susannah BARTON were received into the church "by letter". This is a very recent discovery for me so I've not had time to research just exactly who he was, from what area he migrated, his age, and family makeup. It's very curious to me because I've been in search of the parents of my Jeremiah BURTON for thirty five years. Ironically, Jeremiah was in and out of Macon Co., NC as he married Millie MOORE who was raised in Macon Co. as her father, mother, and both sets of grandparents were living in Macon Co. and were members of The First Baptist Church for a few years. Jeremiah, aka James, Jerry, J. J., Jarat, etc., could be the son of James and Susannah. Or he could be that James BARTON. He married Millie Moore in 1836, so ...???? Jeremiah BARTON is the name on a deed in Macon Co. for Katie DAVIS MOORE, his mother-in-law abt 1840. Jeremiah is purchasing land on Ellijay Creek in 1840. From 1850 thru 1900, Jeremiah is living in Rabun Co., GA - just a hop, skip, ... from Macon Co., NC. Perhaps you, or anyone else reading this, can give me some insight into the James BARTON family.
