Wayne,
Thke only Henry Hagler I can find in the l870 census is Carrol Co., Tn. He is black living with (J. can't read) MCkenzie l0 or l6 also black, Samuel McKenzie 12 black who works in brickyard, J. L. Hick (sp?) white and a Henry ? 26 white born VA. Carrol is close to Madison Co. There was not anything on various spellings of Hagler in the Madison Co. books at our library.
Found Simon Duffy from Ireland age 50 in Shelby Co., Tn, laborer, with Eliza 50, Stephen l7, Mary l2, and Pataraick 22 all from Ireland.
