Eli Bunch Maury County 1795

At the begining of my research I mistakenly assumed the genealogical postings I'd found on on-line concerning my branch of the Maury County Bunch family were correct, and that Solomon, Asa, and Eli Bunch 1795, were all brothers, but after hundreds of hours of research I find that not to be the case. Solomon and Eli were not likely brothers at all. I don't know much about this Asa Bunch except that he was married to Susanah Denham, sent his children to school, had a few hundred acres of land, a couple slaves, and after the Civil War was without money and was award a settlement by the Fed Gov for loses he recieved during the war (the amount was undisclosed). Also I find that Eli Bunch, according to his pension application for his service in the War of 1812, was born in 1795 in the same place where he resided his entire life, and where he died, a place which in its early days was called by different names, but which was to become known as Maury County, Tn., around 1808. While Eli's father's name is not recorded on any document which I can find, and believe me I have looked, the earliest Bunch name in that region of southwest middle Tn (about 30 miles southwest of Nashville), today known as Maury County, is the name of ISHAM BUNCH. He is the builder of BUNCH'S MILL circa 1806, 08, or as early as 03. In 1830 Eli Bunch is listed as a Miller and farmer. He was married to Nancy Bullington. They had five children all of whom went to school, 300 to 400 hundred acres at different times, between 8 and 10 slaves at different times. He recieved a land grant out west for his service in the War of 1812. He musted in at Ky. and fought under Jackson at New Orleans. He is listed as a Miller and Bunch's Mill, which was built by Isham Bunch (and not Solomon Bunch as some claim. The Solomon Bunch of early Maury County had a middle name which began with "H." as did his son, Civil War Vet. Sol. H. Bunch Jr.) Isham Bunch, builder of Bunch's Mill could have been Eli Bunch's father. Solomon Bunch doesn't seem to have come to the area until a later date, perhaps 1811 (mail for him at post is the earliest time we find his name recorded in the area). Solomon could have purchased the mill from Isham or from Isham's widow if Isham Bunch died during that early time period. After Isham Bunch's building of the mill, circa 1806, I do not find the name again on any of the many records I've researched. Did Solomon buy the mill from Isham Bunch's family, circa 1811? Solomon Bunch's name is associated with the mill. He was a wealthy business owner. Eli Bunch in 1830 is listed as a miller. Eli would have been 15 yrs old in 1810. Solomon would have been 25 yrs old at that time. If Isham died perhaps Solomon bought the mill from Mrs. Bunch. I don't know the answer, but I do know that I have not found any Bunch name, other than Isham's, who could have possibly been Eli's father. During that early period of that region no name appears on any document who could have been Eli's father other than that of Isham Bunch. I have read on-line different incorrect claims as to the name of Eli's father (they list sources which do not exist!!!). Important to remember is that Maury County did not have a census until 1830. I have searched other early documents for the name often listed on-line as Eli's father, but the name isn't found on any record of the region, but in different states. I have looked at all the micro-film from that early period which is available. Eli Bunch named his first born son Nimrod Porter Bunch, some assume he was named for the famous sheriff Nimrod Porter, but at the time of Nimrod Porter Bunch's birth, the famous sheriff was not yet famous and was just a boy (The name "Nimrod" comes from a man who was a hunter in the Bible). This Nimrod Porter Bunch also gave the middle name of "Porter" to his first born son. A tie to the Porter family of early Maury County MAY be a possibility. Nimrod Porter Bunch's younger brother was very tall, 6'6" same height as a member of the Porter family from ealry Maury Co. These two Bunch brother left Maury County late 1840's. Both of them, and many of their descendants, were involved in law enforcement, farming, etc. If you have any documentation to add to what we do know I'd love to hear about it. I have learned to document anything you hear... some people posting on-line are very confident and well spoken about their mistaken genealogy research. Verify what you find posted before you take it in.
Eli's children on censuses list thier father's birth place as NC, TN, and KY. In 1795 the area of Maury County was called by many names... to add to the difficult search.
