It is believed by this researcher that Elizabeth Hughes married a Rogers. I remember an aunt Liz Rogers. It was told by the older generations that she helped to care for my grandmother Mary Jane Arnold .( Both of Mary Jane's parents died when she was very young.)

James Hughes may have married before Sarah Jane. The first two children seem to be older than the marriage. So they may belong to another wife.
I found a marriage for James Hughes to Rebecca Tenney on 7 June, 1849 in the McMinn Co. TN records.
This James Hughes age 27 and Rebecca age 34 are listed in the 1850 TN Census in McMinn Co. with children, Absolem age 12, Joseph age 9 and Catherine 1. James was born in SC. I believe that Rebecca was married before and the only child belonging to James and Rebecca is Catherine age 1, because they just married in 1849. I think this is Permelia C.

I believe this James Hughs belongs to Joseph Hughs family because place of birth is same.
