James Brooks, b.1788, Chatham Co., N.C./to 1 1/2mi.from Purdy, Tn.

James Brooks was born in Chatham County,N.C. in the year of 1788, He came to Tennessee in 1805. Located in Maury Co., Tn. On arrival of manhood he married Miss Ester Hopkins. They had 4 children: Aaron,Moses,Samuel; one daughter Emaline. James wife died in 1819. James married a widow lady- Mrs. Jane Beaty, by whom they had four sons:Hezekiah, Robert, Issac, and Franklin. He came to McNairy Co., Tn. in 1834; and located one and half mile; south of Purdy, Tn.; where he raised his family&they married as follow: Aaron to Miss Ann Harris, Mosses to Miss Ussery, Samuel to Mrs. Mary Miller-2nd wife Nancy Young; Emaline to Mr. Thomas Luther, Hezekiah in Mississippi(name unknow)& lived in Cornith,Ms., Robert to Katherine Moore, Issac to Miss Hurst. Louisa, the eldest daughter of Mrs. Beaty, Married Alfred Moore, for many years a merchant in Purdy. James Brook died in 1854, he was a good farmer, raised his family in good credit and respectability. In 1882 most of his decendants still live in the county, but in 2008, they are as seeds blown in a large wind in different places. The only Brooks I knew was My great-grandmother Mary Elizabeth Brooks Campbell, her father was H.W. Brooks, she was born April 1, 1880; she married Dec. 3, 1899(for I have her marriage at my home, with the wedding present she recieved)she died May 26, 1952; and buried at Cave Springs Cemetery, Chester Co.,Tn. Her daughter was my grandmother Zonia Carolyn Campbell Fowler; she married Arthur McKinley Fowler. Their oldest son was Barnell Fowler. I'm his oldest son: Gerald Barnell Fowler
