I am looking for information as to if Martha, age 40, who appears in the home of David Redding, 1870, McNairy Co., TN., was his wife and who is the boy "Samuel" age 14 in the home? This young boy did not appear in David's home in 1860. Was Martha a 2nd wife of David Redding and what was her surname or was she previously married and is this her son 'Samuel"?
I suspect she may have been Martha Browder, daughter of Richard Browder, and that she married David Redding, then later to Jas. Forsythe.
If so, might Martha be the Mrs. Forsythe, mentioned as an Heir in the Estate settlement of David Redding of McNairy Co, TN., is and how is she (or her children?) heir/heirs of David Redding?

I am seeking the identity of my ggg.grandmother, said to be a "Forsythe". David Redding & Stephen Horn (see 1850 census), were both related to me.
This Forsythe woman who was the mother of my gg.grandfather, "William Riley Wardlow" apparently had a love affair with John Wardlow sometime around Nov-Dec. 1848 and she became pregnant with a son, later born and named William Riley Wardlow, born Aug. 1849. I am unable to find Wm. Riley Wardlow on the 1850 or 1860 census, but he does appear on the 1870 McNairy Co., TN., census, living as a hired farm laborer in the home of Epham. M. Perkins and wife Elizabeth J. and their 4 young children.
Family legend is that the Forsythe woman brought Wm. Riley over to his father "John Wardlow's' home, and left him on the porch with a note saying "Raise your own son".
John Wardlow was married to Nancy Jane Horn sometime by March 1848 as their first child 'Josiah" was born in Dec. 1849, just 4 months almost to the day after Wm. Riley Wardlow was born. *Nancy Jane Horn was a sister to my ancestor, Mary Ann Horn-Browning. All these families seem to connect one way or another.
Mary Ann Horn-Browning, was my ggg.grandmother and her daughter Ursula Adeline Browning-Palmer, my gg.grandmother. I also highly suspect Mary Ann's youngest son was, "Stephen Browning" who married 1st to Martha Paralee Browder and they had children: Lena, Lela and Oscar Browning.
I found a picture of Lela Browning in my grandmother's trunk of family pictures and on it her name is written in at the bottom, and on the back she had written a note saying 'From your cousin in TN''.
Ursula Adeline Browning had married Thomas Martin Palmer in McNairy Co., TN., and then after the birth of several children, moved to Kaufman Co., TX.
I believe Lela sent this picture to her cousin' "Paralee Palmer" (likely named for Lela's mother), who was living in TX.
However, the story gets more complicated as my gg.grandfather, William Riley Wardlow (my great-grandfather), married Mary Elizabeth Horn (daughter of James F. Horn & Elizabeth Whitaker) and they had a son (my great-grandfather) "James David Wardlow", who was born in McNairy Co., but he moved as a teenager with or just following, his grandparents (the James F. Horns) to Kaufman Co. TX.
Once there, he later married his 2nd cousin 'Paralee Palmer", and so....the picture of Lela Browning could have been sent to or with James David Wardlow when he went to TX. or was already there as Lela was also his couisn. Wow...got all this?
So, my grandmother, who was the daughter of both James D. Wardlow and Paralee Palmer, could have obtained this picture of Lela Browning through either of her parents.
And the connection to the Redding's, is that both Paralee Palmer and James D. Wardlow were direct descendants of John Horn and wife Elizabeth Redding who I believe may have been the sister or more likely, the cousin, of David Redding.
While the family legend is that John and Nancy Jane did take Wm. Riley Wardlow in and raised him, I can't find him listed in their home in 1850 (age 1) or 1860 (age 10), so I don't know if he was there and not told of to the census recorder because he was illegitimate or if he was actually in another home until after the age of 10 and then brought to his father's home to raise. He is living only 3 doors away from David Redding in 1870 in the Perkins home and later was also living close by his father and half-siblings on later census's.
I saw it suggested that the 2nd wife of David Redding was Martha Browder, who later after David's death, may have married Jas. Forsythe who in 1880 has a wife named Martha, whose age and birthstate is a good fit for that of the Martha Forsythe, wife of Jas. Forsythe.
So, I wonder if when "Mrs. Forsythe" is listed as an heir in the estate settlement of David Redding, settled in 1879, was his widow, who by then had remarried Jas. Forsythe and instead of naming her as David's widow, was named as an 'heir'?
I know this may be a long shot, but if this is all correct, I suspect she may be the mother of my Wm. Riley Wardlow and when our family legend referred to her as a "Forsythe", that may have been her married name at the time the story was told by the family members, and not necessarily her maiden name.
I don't see Martha (Browder) married to anyone until she shows up in David Redding's home in 1870 at the age of 40, and I do not see any children for her.
I believe she was Martha Browder, the daughter of Richard Browder, (1860 census of his home has a dau. 'Martha', age 30, born in NC)
Appreciate any insight into this mess.
