Thanks for that.

It's beginning to look, as you suggest, like it is Harriet A Stansfield, who married Edward as I have the marriage to Elizabeth in 1861 too. He could have married both but it seems unlikely.

All the evidence seems to point to Harriet.Looks like the original information I obtained was wrong.

Wonder if the John W Rossiter mentioned is a relative.Seems a good possibility. Maybe they are brothers. If so the 1880 Census seems to suggest their father comes from Rhode Island.

Is it possible to find Edward in the 1850 Census please?
