Have you ordered John C. Ferguson's death certificate? The certificate may or may not name his parents or place of birth. I think this may be him. The earlier records don't give a place of death but he probably died in Gallatin Co, MT.

In 1918 Lewis Raymond Ferguson registered for the WWI draft. In his registration he names his mother, Mrs. J.C. Ferguson of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, as his nearest relative. That sounds to me like John C. was already dead by then.
