Looking for info on WHITFIELD family...NC>TN>AR>TX. THOMAS WHITFIELD was born in Nash County, NC—probably in the early-mid 1700’s (based on the birth date of his son). Thomas married "Elizabeth," and at the time of his death on May 21st 1798 in Nash County they had two sons (Willis and MATHEW) and 4 daughters (Mary Willis, Sarah Bryant, Chloe Stoke (?), and Nancy Massengill).

MATHEW WHITFIELD (son of Thomas & Elizabeth) was born in 1772 in Nash County, NC and subsequently moved to Rutherford County, TN. Mathew married Levina (maiden name unknown) sometime prior to 1820,when they were both annotated on the Rutherford County 1820 census. Mathew and Levina had five children (Mathew, Benjamin, William, Mary Elizabeth and 'girl'). Mathew died in 1827.

WILLIAM WHITFIELD was born in 1800 in Nash County, NC. He married Matilda (maiden name unknown, born about 1804) probably sometime between 1820-40 (need to check the 1840 census to see if the older children are listed). They moved to Rutherford County prior to 1805 (when their next child was born) and were farmers in Rutherford County. By the 1840 census had moved to Izard County, AR. They had 3 children reflected in the 1860 census: one 19 years, one 16 years, and NEWTON JASPER (13). We know that Newton Jasper was born in Arkansas but the birthplaces and names of the other two children are unknown.
