Jan--Just found your site and am interested to know what info you have about Alfred and Noah? Here is the info I have--
JAMES Penland (abt 1833 - abt 1893)

5. Joseph Henry Penland (1871 - 1936)
I have some documentation that indicates Noah was the father of Alfred born in Chattanooga. Dont see how that could be? Noah was my great Grandfather thru his oldest son, John Harrison Penland born (1877 -1947). Also, Mary Casey's descendents claim she was first wife of William Penland
(James's father)so there is a whole group there - although census records seem to support that. Where did you get your info??? Do you know who the William that's James's father is or where he came from??
Supposedly, Alfred had a son named "Ammons"
but the names Mary Freeman, Mary Ammons and William don't compute!! Could you e-mail me on it? i'd sure like to discuss it with you.
