Saunders in Putnam County - 1880s

For several years, I have been puzzling over the birthplace of my grandmother, Lelia Katherine Saunders, who married Thaddeus Asberry Whitten.

Please see death certificate here:

In box 9a, there is a TN town listed that I speculated might be Cookeville. I looked at the whole 1880 Putnam County census and could not find one Saunders. I was told some other family names were Monroe, Payne or Paine, Walton, and possibly Regan or Reagan. I noted in the 1880 census that there were a whole bunch of Leftwich family members and know that, at least in other places, Leftwichs married Saunders.

Any help, clues or leads appreciated.
