Jonathan (aka John) Marien Dennis indicates in the 1880 Census he was born in Putnam, Campbell County, TN ca 1830. He was one of many children born in Tennessee to William Henderson Dennis(1797/VA-1861/AL) and Ruth Pettit Dennis (1800/TN-1886/MO). Was there ever a city by that name in Campbell County, TN, or could it be Putnam County itself?
A number of the Dennis children were born in Tennessee, but I have not discovered whether all were born in Campbell County, or other adjacent counties.
