Schools in the 1800's

What school(s) did the deArmond children who lived at deArmond's Crossing in present-day Roane County TN attend?
My great-grandfather, Wiley deArmond, was born in 1850; and he had several siblings, all of whom grew up near the deArmonds. My grandmother, Florence deArmond Cook, was one of thirteen children who grew up at deArmond's Crossing. She went to the fourth grade. Where did they go to school in the late 1800's?
