James B. HARRIS was born in Middle Tennessee 28 Sept 1809. He married Clementine G. SMITH (born 1816/17 in Tennessee) on 26 May 1835 in Madison County, Alabama. He was a Cumberland Presbyterian minister, and was active in forming the Presbyterian Academy near Larissa in Cherokee County, Texas. He was in Arkansas prior to this.
He with his family arrived in Cherokee County at least by March, 1847, and are documented on 1867 tax roll in Cherokee County, Texas. He is reported to have been in Bell County around 1874 where he died 30 July 1879. He was buried with Masonic honors on South Noland’s Creek, Bell County, Texas, July 31st, 1879. Clementine predeceased him.
Their oldest child was David Bushrod Harris, born 10 April 1836 in TN; died 10 April 1918 TX. Their other children were born in Arkansas and Texas.
