Thank you so much. The Rutherford County Archives and I have been in frequent contact over the last couple of months. I have from Tennessee State Marriages 1780-2002 the following re: Benj Hancock and Caroline Ready Hancock, Benjamin to Caroline Ready Issued Sept 25 1817 John Darrah, surety Solmn. blank by blank According to the Archives, "Hancock, B. Died before March 31, 1826, testate. Francis Hancock was guardian for Caroline M. Hancock. A sum of money in the hands of the guardian was for the use of the grandmother of Caroline M. Hancock, Sarah Hancock, widow of B. Hancock. Caroline M. Scales listed as alias Hancock." "Benjamin Hancock/Handcock b. 1775-1795, signed the petition requesting the formation of Rutherford Co. 10 Aug 1803. He owned 240 acres on the 1809 & 1811 Rutherford Co. tax list, and was on the 1820 census. Dr. Benjamin Hancock m. Sep 25, 1819, Caroline Ready b. 1800 in TN - d. 1873, daughter of Charles Ready, Sen. Benjamin Hancock appeared on a list of letters remaining at the post office in Jefferson on Apr 1, 1811." I know that my relative Benjamin Hancock died @1826 leaving 5 children and wife Caroline Ready. What I can't discern is who Caroline M Hancock Scales might be in relation to my Benj Hancock, because she is not the daughter of Caroline Ready and Caroline Ready did not remarry until @1870 to Enoch Jones. Benj could be old enough to have been previously married and Caroline is a daughter, I just don't know enough yet. Notify Administrator about this message?
