I realize this is a little late, but maybe you'll get this.

Houk and Settie were my Great Grand Parents. Jim (James) Mixon was a Spanish American War Veteran. Settie Died in 1942 and Houk remarried. I don't know if this is part of the confusion. I have a little more information about Hence and who he raised, that I'd be happy to tell you about.
