John Howard 1860 TN census, 1870 TN census

I'm looking for information on a John R. Howard from TN b.1856. There is supposedly a 4 year old John Howard on the 1860 census for Hardeman Co., Polk Co., Van Buren Co., and Lawrence Co. There is a 14 year old John Howard on the 1870 census for Gibson Co. and Lauderdale Co. Does anyone know whether any of these could have been a John R. Howard, who they married or what happened to them? The one I am looking for married Rebecca Jane Elmore in Sevier Co. in 1876 and was a boot maker there in 1880. Thanks for any help you can give me.
