Carole, thank you for your two email messages regarding KUMMERER's from Memphis.
I was hoping that the 1893 obit for John KUMMERER would reveal were he was born. Since it didnot list any family members I have to assume that he never married. I know that a John KUMMERER emigrated from Germany to the US around 1847 and was born in the same year as him but I cannot confirm that they are the same individuals.
Mary KUMMERER's obit showed that she came from Zimmeradorf Germany which is a small community just 19 miles east of the area where my family of KUMMERER/KUEMMERER's lived. I will see were this lead takes me.
There is a book in the Memphis library titled "The life history of Anna Kummerer Cannaday's parents by Anna Kummerer Cannaday". Prehaps this might have some new leads for me. Also as one time there was a "Kummerer" meeting room at the library which makes believe that the family was well known in the area.
Do you know of anyone in the Memphis area that is researching this surname, if so, I would like to share information with them. I have 1000+ KUMMERER/KUEMMERER's in my database the majority from Germany.
