I am a Smith Co TN Turney researcher and cannot place this Mary Turney.....maybe you can help with the Hays part. I have been told - Jacob Hays born east TN ca 1787, lived in Smith Co TN, served in War of 1812, married first Mary Turney, 1840 to Prudence Hamilton.... Before 1840 Jacob Hays moved from Smith Co TN to Morgan Co Alabama...then to Lincoln Co TN and then Obion Co TN where he died ca 1857. Jacob Hays had a connection with a Joseph Turney while he was living in Morgan Co Alabama..... Well the Joseph Turney mention in Alabama is son of Henry Turney of Smith/Dekalb Tn (Henry will 1843 Dekalb Co Tn mentions his daughter Mary as Mary Barns, this Mary Turney married John Barnes Sumner Co TN 27 Dec 1796). So the Alabama Joseph Turney did have a sister Mary - but she was married to a Barnes, not a Hays/Hayes. Do you have anything on a Jacob Hayes/Hays of Smith Co TN in ca 1812? One who seems to have been in Alabama for a while and then back to Tennessee? (the other Turneys who went from Smith Co TN ca 1815-1818 to Alabama besides Joseph were his brother Daniel Watson Turney and Rebekah Turney Looney, wife of John Looney.) in case any of these names mean anything to you. The mention of the Adams name, one of the Adams women married 1812 to one of the Smith Co TN Turneys, they all seem to have lived near each other. The Turney land, later some would fall in Dekalb and some in Cannon as they were right on the line on Clear Fork. Mary Turney Miller hlm@qtm.net Notify Administrator about this message?
