Thanks so much for the information, Judy. I am familiar with this family group. What I do not see, however, is how to discount Ambrose and Gabriel as brothers of James, husband of Catherine Shipley, as they are of the same age/generation, born in North Carolina. Also, why is James the elder designated as James Senior in the 1830 census if the only other James (being the one married to Catherine) isn't his son? Did your grandmother leave any account? Do you know the line of Ambrose?
