Peyton Randolph Smith, born 1789 in North Carolina, moved with his parents to Davidson County, Tennessee. I believe he was a college student at the time they moved. He became a Baptist preacher who states in his memoirs that he moved his family to Tipton County in 1834. His wife, Nancy S. Bass Smith, whom he married in 1812 in Davidson County, died in Tipton County, in 1851. they had raised three daughters and three sons. Two of their sons became ministers as well. Peyton then moved to Drew County, Arkansas in 1857 to work in the ministry and went back to Covington, Tipton County, Tennessee in 1874 with the intention of dying among friends and family and being buried beside the wife of his youth, Nancy Bass, and did so that very year. He had married again three times after Nancy's death. Peyton was a very educated man and it's my understanding that he might have held some public offices as well as pastored churches. Any insight into his life and family on any level would be greatly appreciated. We are looking for names of his daughters and their families and do have quite a bit of information on their sons who all eventually migrated to, died and are buried in Texas. Am also searching for the name and location of the cemetery Peyton and Nancy are buried in--or around Covington. Peyton's name has been found to be documented in several ways: P. R. Smith, Elder Peyton R. Smith, Reverend Peyton R. Smith, Reverend Peyton Randolph Smith.
