WEAKLEY CO., TN & GRANVILLE CO., NC

Could anyone discuss the relationship between Granville Co., NC and Weakley Co., TN ?

There seems to have been quite a bit of migration from Granville to western TN [Benton & Weakley Cos] between 1840-1870.

Families I have noted in this migration include: Lawrence, Shearin/Sherron, Estes, Peace, Clement, White, Jenkins, etc.

What was the draw to western TN? Especially to the folks of Granville Co who seem to have been settled in that part of NC for generations?
