I hadn't heard the hog story!
I hope someone will share a proof with the rest of us that William Trail of Lincoln County, Missouri was a son of Basil and if he wasn't the son of Basil, a proof of who his parents were.
William Trail only lived in Kentucky five years at the most, unless he had lived there earlier, before his marriage January 29, 1813 in Sumner Co, TN, to Sallie Hammond. Their children were Cynthia Ann Trail b 1814 KY md John Barker, James Hammond Trail b 1817 Russellville, Simpson Co, KY md Mary Elizabeth Polly Clare, Agnes Trail b 1819 Lincoln Co, MO md John L. Moore, William Thomas Trail b 1823 Lincoln Co, MO md1 Martha J. Barnes, md2 Olive Webb, Mary Trail b 1825 md Edward Tuggle, Mathias Trail b 1826 Troy, Lincoln Co, MO md Sbiah Barnes, , Elizabeth Trail b 1837 Lincoln Co, MO md Philip Presley, Ardelia Catherine Trail b 1830 md Fountain Henry Womble, Sarah Ann "Sallie" Trail b February 26, 1832 Lincoln Co, MO, Martha E. Trail b 1834 md Thomas D. Owen and John H. Trail b 1836 Lincoln Co, MO md Anne Howell.

Dick Wommack of Virginia arrived....1826 James Gilmore, father of Judge Gilmore, accompanied by Daniel Clare and his half-brother, Allen Clare, all of Kentucky came...(Allen Clare was the son of George Clare from Germany (I have the Clare history) Mary Elizabeth Polly Clare, Allen's daughter, married James Hammond Trail son of William Trail, Clark Ellis, Slade Hammond and Thomas Hammond, John Moore, Ned Cottle, Ben Fletcher, ___ Paris,, Jacob Knull from Tennessee, Adam Hall, A. H. Williams and Stephen A. Stephens.
Settlers before 1830 were the Sitton's, George Jameson, Squire Jameson, Daniel Kimler, John Ricks, Jeremiah Henry, Bailey Young, John Seymour, Tom McGowan, J. K. Salmons, Jim Calhoun, Uptegroves, Morris, Moore, Wilson.

fall of 1818...John R. Gillilland was living near the present Sulphur Lick Church, and William Trail on the road where his widow, "Aunt Sallie Trail", now lives, on the road between Troy and Millwood. Capt. Thomas Hammond and his brother Slade, had also settled in that vicinity...man named Lowe on the Brice H. Wommack farm, Barnett on the old Beard place near Louisville...
