Turners from Quincy, Ill. and Chariton County, Mo.

My great-great grandfather is Charles William Turner, born in the 1820s somewhere in Kentucky, lived in Adams County, Ill., from 1850-1870, mostly in the Fall Creek township; married Ruth Maria Featheringill in Quincy in 1858. He served in the Civil War. Charles and Ruth had eight children, including my great grandfather, George Walter Turner. They moved the family to Missouri in 1870, and Charles died in 1878 in Mendon, Chariton County, Mo. I can't find any death or birth records for Charles, and would love to know his parentage and date/place of birth. I would appreciate any help possible. He's my dead end.
