I have lived in the Shelby County area most of my life. I was raised in Kettlersville and currently reside with my family in Botkins. I learned that there were Uetrechts in the St. Louis area from a family friend who grew up in Missouri. I found out about the Cincinnati families when I met Dan (son of Vince) at a wedding of one of my former high school students in the Auglaize County area. While on business in Cincinnati one time, I showed up unannounced on David Uetrecht Sr. doorstep and introduced myself. He showed me some of the genealogy information he had collected and my family was in it. Anyway, my father is James J. Uetrecht, who lives on a farm south of Kettlersville with his wife Marilyn. Jim's father was William C. Uetrecht. Bill originally came from the St. Marys area in Auglaize county, which is where my father was born. Bill's father, Julius, died when Bill was very young. His mother was re-married to Harry Balse, and they resided in St. Marys until their deaths. Julius Uetrecht's father was named Christian. The strange thing here is that Christian is buried in Willow Grove Cemetery near New Bremen. His son, Julius is buried in a cemetery in Hammond, Indiana, near Gary. My grandfather Bill is in Willow Grove. I don't know the reasons here, but would like to find out. My father has some of this information about Hammond documented. There is a somewhat confusing part, because there was another William Uetrecht who lived in St. Marys and had a son Jim. They were both in the same generation as my father and grandfather. Another Jim "Uetrecht" is a lawyer in Troy, Ohio, but uses the Dutch spelling "Utrecht". In the long run, this would have made spelling easier for everyone if the rest of us hadn't stuck to the original German version. A quick search for Uetrecht of Infospace Germany returns 74 Uetrecht related entries, in addition to several businesses. There are still some over there. I too, would be interested in learning where our family trees originated. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions.
