Vaage Family Genealogy Forum

The name Vaage is a somewhat common one in Norway as it denotes a geological formation like cut or chasm in a hill or mountain. The Vaage's that I am researching come from the island of Vågsøy at the outer reaches of Nordfjord. The town that has the largest population on the island is Måløy. There were many immigrants from Vaage, some related, some not. I am in search of descendants of Jacob Jacobsen Vaage (1796-1859)and Brithe Jacobsdtr. Rødberg(1796-1865) Their youngest son Erik Jacobsen Vaage married Mette Hansdtr. Rødberg, he moved first to a cotters farm named Rødbergstrand, thus taking the name Rødberg, and later with his four children moved to America, first to Benson, MN then to Fertile-Forest City, Iowa. They came in 1885, but the next year 1886 Erik died from heat exaution in this new land. I am in search of descendents also from his siblings. He had an older brother, Ole Johan Jacobsen Vaage who emigrated fairly early as far as Nordfjord goes in 1859. We do not know where he came to. Also descendents of Synnøve or Synneve who married Arne Monsen Kråkenes and remained in Norway. Other siblings were Jacob, Ragnilde, Brithe Oline, Johan Daniel. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
