I believe your George VAIR was the son of Thomas VAIR and Jessie BURNET. I have put together their family info mostly from Old Parish Records at the Edinburgh Register House website.
Thomas Vair b. abt 1768 marr. Jessie BURNET 15 Feb 1800 at Melrose. They had six known children, as follows:
1. James b. 1801 married Jenny (Janet) BURNET, d/o Francis Burnet & Joan Williamson. One of their daughters came to Oxford County in southwestern Ontario.
2. George b. 1802 married Mary Christina LOWRIE. They went to Portage County, OHIO (info from previous genforum messages)
3. Robert b. 1805
4. Janet b. 1808 married George OLIVER. Three of their children are known to have emigrated to Oxford County in Ontario as well.
5. Margaret b. 1811
6. Thomas b. 1816
I still do not have a direct link between these VAIRs and my VAIR ancestors, also from the Borders. The documents don't go back far enough, I'm afraid.
