In case it is of interest to anyone there is a portrait of Ira VanDuzer posted on deadfred.com:

This portrait of Mr. Ira VanDuzer appears on page 89 of The Canadian Horticulturist, vol.XX, no.3, March, 1897. See that article for more information. He was a prominent fruit grower in Winona, Canada. In that article there is also a picture of his house and plum orchard. His family had deep roots in that area. His grandfather, John VanDuzer arrived there from Pennsylvania, USA in circa 1797. I have no further information regarding him.
