I am a descendent of Sarah Laughlin's brother James. I have the following that was prepared by Mrs Eva Laughlin LeBlanc on the Laughlin family, published in 1985. Unfortunately I believe Mrs LeBlanc passed away in 2004 and I do not know who inherited her original research and correspondence.

Frances Wafer b 1750 married Sarah Laughlin, ca 1785 at York Co., SC. Lived on Bullocks Creek, York Co. SC, about 8 miles from the battle site of King's Mountain. Moved 1790's to Pendelton District, SC. (Sarah's brothers James and Anthony fought in the revolution war, Anthony reported to have been at battle of Kings Mtn, James documented to have been at battles/skirmishes of Ninety-six and Eutaw Springs as well as others)

Frances Wafer died 1823 age 72 in KY
Sarah Lauglin Wafer died Bond Co.IL soon after that

Children of Francis Wafer and Sarah Laughlin

James Wafer b 9/28/1785 York Co. SC
m 3/2/1815 to Sarah Elder in Caldwell Co. KY
d 2/08/1873 Bond Co. IL

had 8 children, 2 born KY, rest Bond Co

Sarah Elder b. 5/22/1795 Livingston Co KY
d 2/08/1873 Bond Co. IL.

Nancy Wafer b ca 1790 in York or Pendelton Dist SC
m John Margrave 11/24/1813 in Caldwell Co KY

John moved to Bond Co. IL 1817.
only one child known, James Willis Margrave
John Margrave d 1866 NE

Elizabeth (Betsey) Wafer b ca 1790's in SC or GA
m John Weeks 10/31/1821 in Caldwell Co KY
unknown if children, believed d Caldwell Co
ca 1845.

William Wafer b.ca 1790's GA
m. Perney Smith 3/07/1829 in Caldwell Co. KY

Thomas Wafer b ca 1790's GA
nothing known.

Mrs LeBlanc in 1985 indicates most of the information taken from an autobiography of James Wafer copied from newspaper clippings by Robert Adcock of Carlyl IL, and probably published in Illinois State Genealogy Quarterly, date unknown.

I'll close for now. Hope this info is helpful as a source to work from. Do you have info on other families names connected with Wafers in the 1770-1800 SC period or later in KY? Also info on Francis Wafer parent's. Thanks

Jim Laughlin
