Elkanah Anderson and Thomas Whitwell were brother-in-laws from Hickman or Dickson County, Tennessee, who fought in the Battle of New Orleans. Elkanah Anderson - b. abt. 1772 - North Carolina / Virginia Capt. Francis S. Ellis's Company, 2nd Regiment (Cooke's) West Tennessee Militia Records state that Elkanah Anderson "Died in the service of his country, January 14, 1815, New Orleans, Louisiana". Elkanah's wife, Sarah Murray Anderson received compensation Thomas Whitwell - b. May 10, 1774 - Virginia Capt. Francis S. Ellis's Company, 2nd Regiment (Cooke's) West Tennessee Militia Records states that Thomas Whitwell fought in the Battle of New Orleans, and was Honorably Discharged on May 13, 1815. Note: The powderhorn that Thomas Whitwell used during the battle is still in existance, and carved into the powderhorn is the date of death for British general Pakinham, which states: "The Death of Pakinham, Jan. Th 8, 1815" I hope this is helpful to someone, and if you have any questions re Elkanah Anderson &/or Thomas Whitwell and their families, I will be happy to share what I have.
